How did Lindow man die?

Scientists theorise that Lindow man died as a human sacrifice. They base this theory on the following evidence: the discovery of mistletoe, a sacred plant in the stomach contents, his body's pampered appearance and the three fold nature of his death. He suffered a blow to the head, followed by garrotting and finally bleeding which suggests that he was part of a 'Triple Death' sacrifice. Mistletoe is a narcotic with calming effects and could have been used before the sacrifice to calm him down.
The griddle cake found in his stomach is consistent with a tradition that sacrificial victims would take a piece from the cake and whoever had the bunt slice was the sacrifice. Lindow man's smooth hands and manicured finger nails, may not indicate high rank but a period where he did no work because he was chosen to be the sacrifice. |

Theory 2Theory two is that Lindow man was not a sacrifice, but was clubbed to death. This is believed by R C Connolly, a senior lecturer in physical anthropology. This person believes that the wound in Lindow man's neck was in fact a post mortem rupturing rather than a slash from a sacrificial ceremony. This is because the sinew of the neck looked more like a necklace rather than the mark of a garrotte as thought by others.
